Annie Marie, from Houston,
Annie Marie started teaching music in 1980, both in public elementary schools and in private group and individual lessons from preschool through adult. She received her teaching credentials in 1983 and started teaching general ed in elementary school. Through her work as an elementary teacher, she has given countless interactive concerts focusing on American Roots Music at school assemblies, in classrooms, in libraries and for private parties.
Annie has promoted American fiddle tunes and blues fiddle throughout her career continuing on the fiddle blues traditions of Canray Fontonot and Gatemouth Brown. She was influenced by the many musicians she studied with and played with including Dewey Balfa, Queen Ida, Johnny Heartsman, and Danny Poulard and collaborated with the late blues guitarist Leonard Gill (B.B. King, Otis Rush) for twelve years in the duo ‘Gill and Howard-American Roots Music' which focused on blues fiddle traditions. Annie Marie also made a fiddle video produced by the
Annie Marie is an active song writer and has recorded many of her original songs on the four CDs she recorded with the Cajun Zydeco band, Tee Fee Swamp Boogie. Her most recent project is an acoustic trio that focuses on the American blues style fiddle called Fiddlaround. The band is in the studio working on their first CD which will feature traditional blues fiddle tunes as well as some originals in the genre. Annie is also finishing up a novel entitled ‘Fiddlin' Around’ about her adventures as a fiddler in the 80s and early 90s that is scheduled to be out in 2012.
Awards:
In 1993, the West Coast Cajun& Zydeco Music & Dance Association presented her with both the Rising Star Award and the Best Original Zydeco Song award for writing “Where You Is?”
In 1996 she received the Queen Ida Guillory Women in Music Award and in 1997 an award for her original song, “Don’t Let It Get You!!”

Annie Marie holds a BA in music, a MA in education and credentials in elementary education, music education, teaching English language learners, and educational administration.
