Annie Marie cites Queen Ida Guillory, Dewey Balfa, Danny and Edward Poulard, Canray Fontenot, Gatemouth Brown, Papa John Creech and Kevin Wimmer among her many influences. However, her father's love for American music was her most profound influence.

with Annie on the way
Throughout my musical career, I had thought that I was influenced by this great musician or that one. I had opportunities to listen, dance to, play and tour with so many great artists that I had a hard time nailing down the most influential. However, over the past years I have grown to realize that my greatest musical influence was not any one that made their living playing music but a boogie woogie piano player and singer of American folk tunes that was neither famous nor rich. A man who worked most of his life for the oil companies but who filled my life with music day and night; my dad.
I remember falling asleep with the banging of the keys of our old piano on the other side of the wall from my bedroom and waltzing on my mama's feet in between ironing jobs.
My dad's dad had made a living playing on street corners during the depression. He passed his talent to my dad. I used to think that when I picked up a tune from a jam session quickly becuase it just felt familiar that I had picked up that talent too. Now I realize that I had an advantage. All those old tunes were played and sung for me, in the womb, through my infancy, and throughout my childhhod. I consider it a great honor to keep this music - from our varied and complex American roots - alive for our children and their children.
